The day I painted this I was literally holding onto my canvas with one hand, balancing my palette on my forearm, while I painted with the other! It was incredibly windy, but also incredibly exciting! I loved capturing the natural force of nature with the waves rolling in and the sand flying across the beach!

Driving to the west side of Cape Point means seeing views up the coast to Misty Cliffs just after Scarborough. I've painted Misty Cliffs before - from Scarborough Beach, or from Misty Cliffs Beach itself. I loved painting the view from further away, knowing exactly what I was painting, even though I was only seeing a much smaller section of the beach to what I've painted previously.

This view is looking northwards when you are standing at the entrance to Cape Point Nature Reserve at the very tip of the Cape Peninsula. One of the most special things for me about painting in Cape Town is that I know these mountains, I know this road. It is etched in me like the lines in my palm. I loved seeing the clouds move above the mountains, casting their shadows onto the Fynbos-covered mountains.

A friend hosted her birthday at Woolley's Tidal Pool in Fish Hoek. A secret tidal pool, often not known by locals, and only discovered by me a few years ago! I painted two paintings on this morning - one of the tidal pool itself (as a gift to my friend), and the other of this view looking across False Bay towards Franschhoek. I am always amazed by how quickly the light on the water moves as the sun rises. One moment it's shockingly, piercingly bright white light, and the next, it's a calm, demure light, almost imperceptible against the blue of the sea. I was happy to capture the light just before it faded, on this still morning.

Bakoven Beach is one of my favourite places to paint in Cape Town, particularly in the morning. I love watching the shadows recede in a multitude of shapes as the sun rises behind Table Mountain. This painting I created over many mornings, giving me ample opportunity to choose the shadow shapes I liked best!
